When it doesnt post is that fresh off a reboot? Or after it has been off for a little while?

Sounds most likely to be a heat problem...
Make sure your CPU fan is going around, make sure the heatsink and fan are clear of dust (buy a can of compressed air if you need to.)
It could also be a power supply problem, check your voltages and make sure they're not out of the range of what they should be. If something is radically out of range of what the name implies it should be, you have serious problems and probably need to get a higher rated power supply. You should be able to check the levels in the BIOS by pressing delete (or F1 on some boards) at startup.
Out of curiousity, and because it would help to know, what are your system specs? Most specifically, video card, Power Supply, processor, fans and drives.

Or it could be a memory stick going bad. I had one do that a while back. I was playing Railroad Tycoon 3 right after cleaning the case out with compressed air. The graphics went corrupt. So I figured "heat" cause it was a hot computer and left it off a while. Then Windows crashed a whole lot. Finally I got out Memtest and sure enough my memory(the only stick I had in there) was going bad. Changing the timings kept it alive a little longer, but eventually a replacement had to be found.

I'm wondering if this is all still valid, since this post was made back in August (first day the forum opened, in fact), and I've seen him post loads since then. Is it possible that he's already fixed it?

Hah, yeah I'm pretty sure he got this fixed. But there's some good info in here.

Aye... That's the third most likely thing. However, I'd consider looking into voltage problems even if it was corrupt memory or a bad CPU. It's a major cause of memory failures and just replacing the sticks could set you up for a repeat on down the line.
